HOW SOLAR ENERGY WORKS
A home solar energy system works when sunlight hits the panels. The solar panels capture the sunlight which enables the release of electrons. These electrons form direct current (DC) electricity. That electricity travels through an inverter which converts the DC electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity. AC electricity is what you now use throughout your home—you just use the Power Company’s AC electricity. When you are not using the electricity produced by your system, it can be sold back to the power company as future-use credits.
